Don't be misled by western media reports of a politically tame Russian media. Russia's newspapers, magazines, web publications and even some electronic media are diverse, lively and news-driven.

With a buoyant advertising market, Russia's most influential media no longer rely on "pay-for-play" practices, and instead are competing for readership. As these are the media most warranting your attention, they are also the titles you will need to work hardest with to get your story told. They are staffed by some of the brightest and most independent-minded journalists anywhere, and what they want is genuine news, not promotional rhetoric.
