OMZ (Uralmash-Izhora Group) Completes Modernization of System of Control and Management for 3rd Power Unit of Dukovany NPP (Czech Republic)
MOSCOW (RNWire) - Skoda JS (Czech Republic), a part of OMZ NPPEQ division, a major supplier to the nuclear power industry, and the Czech energy company CEZ signed a protocol of acceptance for a newly modernized system of control and management for the No. 3 power unit of Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant.
Modernization was carried out during February-May 2005. For the first time in nuclear energy industry history, full replacement of the control and management system was carried out without long-term interruption of the power unit operation. The launch of the new system was in full compliance with the agreed timetable.
The launch marked the first stage of a project that envisages step-by-step modernization of the control and management systems in all four power units of Dukovany NPP. The project was specified in a contract concluded in 2000 by Skoda JS and CEZ. Completion of the work is planned for 2009.
The modernization of the Dukovany NPP aims to achieve increased reliability of operation and durability of the control and management system, and provide nuclear security of the Dukovany NPP in accordance with requirements of national and international law.
